Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley, Jr. announced the arrest of New Mexico resident Pedro Ruiz-Rivas on Monday, who is facing charges that include two felony counts of criminal possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and other violations.
According to Langley, shortly after 1:30 a.m. on May 21, a Deputy Sheriff stopped Ruiz-Rivas on I-84 in Southeast for a vehicle and traffic violation. During the stop, it was determined that Ruiz-Rivas was in possession of a 9mm semiautomatic pistol, a 45-caliber semiautomatic pistol and several boxes of ammunition and a pocket knife.
When the deputy attempted to take him into custody on the weapons charge, he allegedly resisted arrest before being apprehended. Following arraignment, Ruiz-Rivas is due back in court next month to answer the charges.
